A Psalm of Praise

Praise the LORD!

Praise God in His sanctuary;

Wow, can I put some of that in my coffee? My dear friend, Delores Michaelson, gave me a book that is a MUST READ, it is called, "How to Worship Jesus Christ," by Joseph Carroll. If you have not read it, please do! The one thing my sweet friend, Delores, told me is "Daisy, it's all that matters, that we worship Him, praise Him and that we excel at it still more." We never reach the ceiling in our quiet time with the Lord. This is an area that we need to constantly be growing in! O, it is our source of everything! He is our life! My prayer is that we would use our lips to praise the Lord, to bless His holy name, to worship at His feet and stand in awe of Him. I have enjoyed reading and studying through Psalm 1 for the past week and what incredible treasures there are within this Psalm. One incredible note in Psalm 1:3 is that the word "planted" actually means transplanted, so cool! So if you read the verse again with the true usage of the word it brings so much depth and insight,

(the righteous), "He will be like a tree firmly transplanted by streams of water,"

In this one word is our understanding of God's saving grace. He chose us, grabbed us, and transplanted us for His glory. The water brings life, and so as Christ is our living water, we are in Him. The contrast is very sobering, for the wicked are not so. My wonderful husband taught out of Psalm 1 and there is a startling point here. When you cross reference there is a similar verse in Jeremiah 17:8 and then right after that comes the infamous verse Jeremiah 17:9 "The heart is more deceitful than all else And is desperately sick; who can understand it?" One of the most deceptive things the heart can do is to believe the lie that they are one of the "transplanted" trees when really they are in a desert, dead and without hope. May we be emboldened to share the gospel without hesitation, may people see through the lie of the enemy and may God open their eyes and transplant them by His living water. I am beginning a study through the book of Psalms which may take many years of my life, who knows? And, I am really excited! I am going to use commentaries by J.A. Motyer, C.H. Spurgeon, Stanley L. Jaki, and who knows what else I may find on my husband's book shelves :) I am so blessed to have all of these resources at my fingertips; one of the many privileges of being married to a pastor.

One quote I have to share is from J.A. Motyer, "It is striking that the very first word of the entire book of Psalms should be this one (Blessed). Surely it is far more important (this is the second question) that we should be righteous, or obedient, or loving, than that we should be merely happy? Yes, in the short term; but from his original creating of his people right through to his final redeeming of them, Scripture is clear that God's long-term purpose for them is that they should be blessed. The psalmists celebrate every foretaste of that heavenly promise." pg.20

Incredible notes from the MacArthur Study Bible: "The basic theme of Psalms is living real life in the real world, where two dimensions operate simultaneously 1) a horizontal or temporary reality, 2) vertical transcendent reality. Without denying the pain of the earthly dimension, the people of God are to live joyfully and dependently on the person and promises standing behind the heavenly/eternal dimension. Life often seems out of control, and yet, all events and situations are understood in the light of divine providence as being right on course according to God's timetable."

One of the life long files I shall add to until the Lord calls me home is on the subject of Joy. I pray that every Christian will know the joy of their salvation, that they will rejoice always, that they will joyfully adore their Savior who bought them and that they know the joy of His presence. May our hearts be fixed on heaven as we walk on the narrow road to glory.

Resolved Conference 2011

So thankul for our time at the Resolved Conference in Palm Springs. God blessed me to be able to go with the girls I have been discipling and a couple other friends (missing Ange in the photo). Can't believe my sweet Willa, (nearest me) is leaving to go to The Master's College. She has been so precious and such an incredible encouragement! I will miss her dearly! Our first Easter service at Harvest Bible Chapel Carson-Tahoe. John's sister & brother-n-law came up with the kiddos to share the day with us. God gave John an incredible sermon and I praise him for his mighty hand at work in all of our lives. We love you Lord.

Jane was brave and by the end of the day was going down the little hill by herself! She did a great job. I got down the mountain a few times too and had so much fun. The snow was great and it was wonderful spending time with our family.

Catching my breath

Praise the Lord God that He is Faithful! John and I are going through the attributes of God and the one we are talking about this week is the Solitariness of God. He needs us not and we add nothing to Him, but He wants us and He loves us. I cannot grasp the incredible God that we serve and I cling to Him with all that I am. He is the most beautiful thing I have ever beheld and my heart longs to praise and worship Him alone.

For my dear friends who check every once in a while, God has done a miraculous thing. This last summer is a blur as I look back at the incredible things that God has done! There were Bible studies, a ladies tea party, weekly church meetings in our home, a garage sale to raise money for the church, and the list goes on. But on September 19, 2010, God ignited a new lamp stand for His supreme glory in Carson City, NV. The launch of Harvest Bible Chapel Carson Tahoe commenced and we have been running the race ever since. Words cannot describe our joy and no amount of tears cannot express the miracle that has occurred. We echo the apostle John, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, which if they were written in detail, I suppose that even the world itself would not contain the books that would be written."

We praise Him with all of our hearts for all time! Praying for many to be saved! Please pray with us for God's continued grace and the gift of our precious body of believers.

17 Weeks

The reason that I have not updated the blog in a while is because of that little bump right there. I was so sick for almost 2 months and was one upset tummy away from going to the ER to get hydrated but praise God I didn't get sick for the rest of the day and then it finally subsided. To those of you moms out there that have endured this and worse - WOW! Praise God for getting us through! I can only give Him the credit, I was of no use and John was wonderful! I love my husband...

John MacArthur spoke on what to look for in a shepherd, incredible! We praise God for the years that he has been our shepherd.

Rick Holland gave the greatest sermon I have ever heard on sexual purity.

Steve Lawson aka "the wrecking ball" preached on the beatitudes and as Rick Holland said, "preached the sermon of his life." Tremendous!

CJ Mahaney, gave the most insightful sermon on dealing with the downcast soul & God's gift to us was his sermon on progressive sanctification. What an honor to glean from this man!

This picture encompasses all that John Piper is: in love with His Savior, in constant awe of His grace and a passion I have seen nowhere else of explaining the treasures he has found in Scripture. Thank you to our modern day heroes who preach the Word in & out of season. Theirs is a faith that is worth much because it costs them, much. Praise God for your power & grace. Love you Lord!

So much fun! We did a candy shop in the front window. We had taffy, ring pops, razzles, lemonheads and jane's favorite sucker-poppies (her word for lollipops). The flags were fun to make, I just cut triangles out of different papers that I had on hand and then sewed them to the ribbon. It's great because I will definitely pull those out for years to come.

The kids stood in single file and at the beginning of the line there were treat bags for each of them to fill up. So much fun.

My fist attempt at cake balls and they were a big hit. See the Pioneer Woman website to see a step-by-step tutorial on them. So fun & reatively easy.

Here is Jane's invitation. I sent a picture with it. This party was really fun and simple things to make it special. I cut the invitation into a circle and then wrapped with celo and tied with a bow. Got some cute ideas on line. Also, I took clothes pins and stuck glue dots on the back of the little candy labels and just stuck in on the side of the jar. Most of the candy was from the dollar store!

Carson Mission Project

God is so good. John lead the high school students on a local mission trip and we have been blown away by the response. The agenda was as follows:

Thursday: Arrive at the church & Dinner (worship lead by Robbie Conrad who they met at Hume Lake Christian Summer camp)

Friday: Early morning serving at the local Native American Reservation. The kids were able to paint an entire room, pack up over 100 boxes of food, wrap presents for the children and clean out and organize 3 sheds. They came back to the church that night and served at the harvest carnival. THey put labels on 2,000 water bottles with our church's information.

Saturday: Passed out water bottles at the parade & street evangelism. That night they went door to door and invited people to church and asked for prayer requests. They went to over 400 homes. Had a worship time and dessert.

Sunday: Woke up extremely early and served food to the homeless.

After the time there were 5 students who took initiative and went back to the reservation to help reach out to the children on the reservation. They were so excited and there is nothing more precious than seeing these kids excited for God and seeing His power in their lives. Amazing God!

Yes, as you can see it has been a very fun summer. Jane and I flew down to LA for 1 week and she also attended a princess party at home in Nevada. She is becoming such a cute little girl. Currently she is running from place to place and talking in a language we don't understand and we are loving every minute of it!

Miscarriage and God's Unending Love and Faithfulness

For those of you who have not heard we recently went through a miscarriage. As hard and crazy as our week was we are so thankful to the Lord for His sovereignty. I felt so loved by all of you who prayed for me; God has truly sustained me and taught me so many lessons. I am thankful that one day there will be no sin, no loss, no more sadness and we will behold the glory of our Lord in heaven where we belong. I thank God that He is so powerful and has done so many amazing miracles in our lives that my faith is not shaken and I find myself content with not knowing why but rejoicing in God for who He is and what He has done and will continue to do in our lives.

ALASKA

This state is amazing. From the hikes through ice caves in glaciers to catching a 30 lb. fish, and people dropping off dungenous crabs, because they have too much, this place is amazing. It is awesome to see how the Lord has blessed us with such a diverse world

IN THE GLACIER
After a 2 hr hike and "bushwacking" through some Alaskan wilderness, we came up to Mendenhall Glacier. It is amazing to see into the depths of the ice caves and see and hear its slow movement.

Our dear friends Tracy and Alan invited us to come and stay with them in Juneau, Alaska. So far we have gone downtown, driven to the end of 2 roads, hiked by the West Glacier Trail, gone to their church, went to a camp site and killed amazing amounts of bugs with these electric bug zappers. No, we haven't seen any bears yet but; John and Alan hiked up to the top of the glacier and saw a porcupine! We are headed to the tram tomorrow and to go gold panning. We are having a nice time. Flying in was so amazing and yesterday was the longest day of the year. In fact, it's almost 11:00 pm and it is dusk outside. Crazy!

This is Jane's new smile for the camera. She scrunches her nose and we just love it. We made it down to Southern Cali alright, we hit some snowy roads above Bishop but John was my hero and got us through. Praise the Lord.

So John and I got to thinking and this year has been the most insane year of our lives. Here is a run down:

January - 5 months pregnant, John in final semester, looking for ministry position
February - John went to Nevada to candidate for position and offered the position
March - Received offer from the church and accepted position - started packing for move
April - 5 days overdue with baby, Daisy stopped working - still packing and setting up baby room; trying to sell our house
May - Jane born on the 2nd, John graduates, we are trying to sell our house
June - Move to Woodfords, CA and have found someone to buy our house - Jane 4 weeks old, go to the lake, cousin's wedding, celebrate our 4 year anniversary
July - Begin ministry at Hilltop and go to Junior High camp, spend some time at home
August - Finally sell our house, kill lots of mice in the house - see a HUGE bear in the backyard, trip home to LA
September - John marries a life long friend and his fiance in San Diego, stay in town for a few days, Josh and Laura visit
October- Don visits, we have our first day of real snow and take our Christmas picture :), went to the lake house
November - Thanksgiving at the Lake house, Mom visited, and a surprise visit from my friend Tracy
December - Got in accident driving through the snow (we are all just fine praise God). John's grandma's 90th birhtday in San Jose, cut down our Christmas tree, MORE SNOW

This picture was taken at the top of the mountain on our way to the lake house. It is so beautiful and I can't believe we live here. The Lord has taught us so much and we are continually reminded of His care and the beauty of the world that He has created.

Meadowranch Junior High Camp 2007

This was our group of the junior high students and the staff that went with us. We had an incredible time and one of the students came to know Christ. This was about 1 month after we had moved up here and Jane was about 2 1/2 months old.

The bus that we drove up was brand new but we ended up breaking down about 45 minutes after the adventure began. The parents were so amazing and came to our rescue. Our trip which was supposed to take 7 hours ended up taking 11. The students didn't mind of course and we all got to talk and get to know each other a little better.

God has been so good to us. I find myself so dependent on Him for everything. Jane just overwhelms my heart with love and I am so thankful for her. God knew that I needed her at this time in my life when life is taking on some huge changes for us. Praise you God that you do not change, you are the same. Thank you Lord, that you have given us a ministry that we do not deserve. It is by your strength and in your power that lives will be changed. May we be used for your glory...

The day finally came! I couldn't believe that Jane slept through the entire thing. It was an unforgettable time and we enjoyed the reception back at John's parent's house.

Jane's first screams! She had some great lungs already!

So... I went into the hospital on May 1st at about 3:00 pm and had some medicine to begin dilating because I was at zero. At 7:00 pm they checked and I was at 1 so the medicine was working. I started have contractions pretty close together and by midnight I needed a shot to take the edge off the contractions at 3:00 am they started the pitocin and from 4:00 - 6:30 am I was in severe pain but then the epidural came and I was flying high and not feeling a thing. Thank you Lord. I dilated from 3 1/2 to 7 centimeters in 45 minutes. At 8:45 am I was ready to push and I had her at 9:34 am. I never felt closer to the Lord in depending on Him for everything and thankful that she came out so healthy.

The Scripture is so true..."Whenever a woman is in labor she has pain, because her hour has come; but when she gives birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish because of the joy that a child has been born into the world." John 16:21

The baby is kicking like crazy anf John and I are getting more and more excited about the arrival of baby Cox. We still don't know who it is but we have decided on a few names Jane or Faith & James or Will. We love all of the names but think we'll decide when we meet him/her. I am thankful to be working - it is such a blessing to keep busy all day until the baby comes. We are going to paint the baby's room in a few weeks. So excited!

Lord, thank you for the blessing of being able to have a baby!

So, I have experienced "quickening" (the first movements of your baby). It is pretty spectacular. I am not feeling them regularly yet but I am told soon enough the baby won't STOP moving. I am anticipating that time. Striving to give glory to God as you experience morning sickness all day is truly a dying to self. It's difficult but God has given me strength and perseverance and I am very blessed.

2nd Trimester

Well, this is what the baby would look like in 3D at 13 weeks. It really is incredible! John and I are still in disbelief but overjoyed! Our 12 week ultrasound went really well. The baby was flipping all around and flailing its little arms. John and I were laughing so hard! It was such a blessed time and we are anticipating the arrival of Baby Cox with the new due date April 26th. I still am not over the morning sickness but it is getting better. Thank you all for your love & prayers. It's unbelievable how God forms this little one and each month you get to see His miraculous works on display! I am overwhelmed!

Here's the Scoop...I was heading home from work on Monday, August 14th, and I just had to stop at Target and get a test. I found this awesome one that had 3 in 1 so I decided to take one there!!! I was just so excited. Unfortunately the test was inconclusive (or so I thought) because the line was so faint but I bought 2 little bibs anyway; each saying "I Love Daddy," one in pink and one in blue. I decided to wait and tell John after I had taken another test. The next morning I took the 2nd and again the line was too faint (but there was a line). Wednesday, August 16th was the infamous day! I actually took the test on my lunch break at work and low and behold that second line was extremely dark!

I called John immediately but no answer- he was in a meeting at church- so for about 2 hours God & I were the only ones who knew :) So when I finally spoke with John I could barely contain myself and nothing that I said could convince him to come to my work so I asked him to go look in the car for something that I needed (the bibs happened to be in the back seat) and immediately he knew even before he found the bag. He showed up about 5 seconds later and we jumped around and laughed and cried a little. So I realized that if there is ANY kind of line on a test - it's positive!

Praise the Lord for His amazing blessing and miracle in our lives.
